For this first SAR of the 2nd term, I would like to try out something new. In addition to the original SAR questions of:
1. Where do I stand?
2. Am I contributing to class in a positive manner?
3. What am I doing well?
4. What will I do to improve?
5. Did I reach my goals from my last reflection?
6. What are my new goals?
I would like for you to copy and paste the most recent skills set objectives for the chapter that you are either currently covering, or have just finished covering. (The skills set objectives can be found on the blog under each class overview.)
Next to each skill, you should rank your comprehension of the skill by assigning it a value of:
1: I do not know how to do this.
2. I need to practice this.
3. I can do this.
4. I could teach this.
For example a response you may have for Algebra 3-4:
4 - 1. Graph relations and functions. (2.1)
4 - 2. Graph and evaluate linear functions. (2.1)
4 - 3. Find slopes of lines and classify parallel and perpendicular lines. (2.2)
3 - 4. Use slope to solve problems. (2.2)
2 - 5. Use the slope-intercept form of a linear equation to graph linear equations. (2.3)
(so on and so forth)... through all of the objectives that have been covered so far in your class for the chapter.
The new format of the SAR should help you shift your focus from earning a grade based on completing homework, participating in class, and taking notes... to ranking your effort in class of going above and beyond, basically fine, etc. on how many of the objectives you should be accomplishing are actually being accomplished.
Your "grade" isn't something that should be determined by a reflection of "I've been turning in my homework, taking notes, and working hard." It should be based on "In this chapter, we've been learning to set up t-tables and graph functions. I was able to use the data given to set up a chart then graph the line and identify if the line was or was not a function." It's the skills that you are being graded on, not the "work" that is being turned in. Turning in work does not equate to understanding the material.
So again, to recap, in addition to the 6 SAR questions, you are also copying and pasting the skills set list into your SAR and ranking your accomplishment level for each skill set.
